Holistic Massage

The term holistic derives from the Greek word 'holos', meaning whole.  I take the ‘holistic approach’ to my clients' wellbeing.  This means that I take your physical, mental and spiritual health into consideration.

'Swedish Massage' is a classic form of massage which focuses on the soft tissues of the body.  Specifically tailored to each client, treating their 'whole being', using a range of movements with varying levels of pressure to relax, stimulate, or rehabilitate the body.  Massage can ease muscle tension, stimulate poor circulation, aid lymphatic drainage, and reduce stress, aiming to rejuvenate the body and revitalise the mind.

How does it work?

The therapist uses their hands, palms, fingers, thumbs, and forearms, to manipulate the body’s soft tissue, especially the muscles.  Techniques during a Swedish massage can include:  Effleurage - a long, gentle gliding stroke, warms up the muscle preparing the body for deeper work.  Petrissage - kneading, wringing and rolling using the hands to break down tension.  Friction - circular and transverse rubbing using thumbs and fingers to stretch muscle fibres, release tension and loosen tightness around joints.  Percussion - a brisk and invigorating stoke using the hands to strike the body rapidly.  Techniques include, hacking, pummelling, pounding, cupping and tapotement.  Vibration - rhythmical shaking of the muscle in order to loosen tightness, release pain and tension.

What does it involve?

Following the completion of a confidential consultation form, client's undress to their underwear and lie down on a massage couch.  Clients are covered with towels/blankets at all times expect for the areas being worked on.  Massage sessions typically last 60 minutes to 90 minutes with some relaxing music played in the background.  A massage routine is tailored to each client, as no two people are the same.  Organic massage oil is warmed in the palms and applied to the body starting with light stokes and gentle pressure and built up to deeper stokes and firm pressure.  The massage is slow and rhythmical throughout and pressure is applied within the clients comfort zone.

What is it good for?

Regular Massage can help improve skin tone, encourage better circulation, boost immunity, improve deeper and therefore more relaxed breathing, aid better lymph drainage and reduce swelling.  Relieve the symptoms of muscle fatigue, soreness and stiffness, relieve tired, stiff joints.  Speed up digestion and waste removal, promote general relaxation and improved sleep.  Massage can be used to treat a wide range of conditions, for example it can help reduce pain, anxiety and stress for people with chronic illnesses . Stress-related tension, fatigue, headaches and migraines, sleep disorders, high blood pressure, diabetes, low back pain and depression, just to name a few.

How will a treatment feel?

Clients come for a massage for many different reasons.  Clients report feeling good!  Feelings range can from being deeply relaxed, renewed and balanced to invigorated with increased energy. Some discomfort may be experienced in areas that are deeply knotted or full of tension, but this subsides after the massage.

How much does a treatment cost?

    60 Minutes = £50

90 Minutes = £70 (extended full body with abdomen, face and scalp massage)
